HeartBeat is a Task Manager and a Live Wallpaper providing CPU usage information, including per process usage graphs. Use it to diagnose why your phone has been running slow lately, who’s been eating your battery or simply because you’re a geek 🙂 and always want to know what’s going on under the hood.

Some of the features are:
See a global CPU graph and for each individual process. The graph is scrollable and you can see previous CPU usage up to 150 seconds ago (coming soon, up to 24 hours)

A live updated list with all running processes, including the activities and services running inside them.

Tap a list item to show extra information and available actions (such as killing an app, switching to an activity or showing the CPU graph of the host process). The list can be sorted by average CPU usage or by name.

Kill misbehaving applications. Note that system apps can not be killed and apps that are killed may be restarted automatically by the system. It is not recommended to kill apps, unless you have a good reason to do so. Killing an application kills the hosting process, so all other applications in that process will be killed

A live wallpaper showing you the current CPU load. You will now know if there is a faulty app or background service consuming your CPU resources and draining you battery. All you have to do is double tap the heart and see what’s going on 🙂

Performance issues:
The current CPU monitoring implementation is somewhat CPU intensive, so if your device is old and this app itself is consuming a lot of CPU, consider setting a less frequent update interval (such as 3 or 5 seconds).

Battery life:
This app does not hold a Wake Lock and thus should not drain your battery. But if there is at least one other app holding a Wake Lock and the background monitoring service is enabled, it will run as long as that other app is running, and might have an effect on your battery. If you notice this scenario, set a less frequent update interval (such as 5 seconds) or disable the background monitoring service. If you still encounter battery issues, please send a bug report.

Coming soon:
– performance improvements (2x-3x)
– up to 24 hour CPU usage history
– information about RAM usage
